St Mary's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, Sydney
St Mary's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church operates Under the Holy Apostolic Throne of Antioch and All the East, under the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church. The church was established in February 2006 by believers who had migrated to Sydney from Kerala, in Southern India, carrying their faith and their liturgical tradition with them — making it the first Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church established in Australia.
The congregation was founded under the leadership of Archbishop H. G. Kuriakose Mor Theophilose, with guidance from H. E. Mor Malatius Malki Malki. Very Rev. Fr. Zeki Zitoun Corepiscopa provided initial spiritual care to the young congregation, and the first Malayalam service was celebrated on 2 April 2006, drawing more than eighty worshippers.
Our church is built upon the devotion and living faith of all its members.
Since those early days, the church has grown from a few families into a close-knit fraternity. Over the years, faithful shepherding has been offered by Rev. Fr. Sabu Paulose, Rev. Fr. George Vayalipparambil, Rev. Fr. Geevarghese Kuzhiyelil, Rev. Fr. Joseph Kunnappillil, Rev. Fr. Varghese Paul Thombra, Rev. Fr. Manish Kuriakose and Rev. Fr. Jerin C Shaji, with Rev. Fr. Eldho Chirangara serving the community today.
